Edwin was born to Edwin and Emily Biffen (nee Smith) in 1881, in Stoke Newington, London, England.

Edwin grew up at 2, Red Lion Lane (now Lordship Lane) in Stoke Newington.

Between 1901 and 1911, Edwin and family were living at 183 High Road in Tottenham, London. On the 1901 and 1911 census, Edwin is listed as being an 'Assistant' at his father's shop.

In 1928, Edwin married Alice Harper. The couple appear to have had no children.

In 1929, Edwin passed away in Edmonton, London, aged 48 years.
