Description | Transcription: Doris Bendemann, of Foreign Rights, spoke to Kathleen Nathan's assistant in Hutchinson, Foreign Rights, about the enclosed manuscript, and it was suggested that I might send it to you for your kind consideration for publication by Jarrold's. MONSIEUR JOSEPH is the story of Joseph Enock's escape from a prisoner-of-war column in Northern France in 1940, and his experiences as an 'evade Anglais' O.R. making his way south through the Occupied Zone to Marseilles and eventually back to England through Spain and Portugal. Although he had many nerve-racking moments, he does not dwell on these unduly, and I believe you will find that reading his book is an always absorbing, mostly pleasurable and at times hilarious experience. I should explain that I am writing to you on Joseph Enock's behalf because he is still convalescing from a recent illness. For the same reason I am sending you my own borrowed copy of his manuscript for the time being. I hope you will not mind this indirect approach and will not hesitate to get in touch directly with Mr. Enock if you wish to take the matter further. |
