Dear Captain Rollo,

Many thanks for your litter of he 19th. of July.

I am glad you found it 'tremendously interesting" and that as soon as a few friends have read it you are passing it on to its final destination, ‘O’ Battery.

I do hope that the 'few friends' do not grow to be the whole of the Record Office as it would be a long time before it gets to ‘O’ Battery.

In the hope that the title may be more attractive I have been considering changing it to '772473' (my Regimental number) or 'No. '772473' instead of the present 'Monsieur Joseph'. What do you think of the idea?

It has occurred to me that it is in fact a documentary and as it appears to be interesting to the Army I have been wondering if H.M.S.O. might consider publication. If you thought there was the slightest prospect of this would you be able to put the ides to them?

If they did publish it it would open wide several possibilities, B.B.C. might consider serialising it, it would make an excellent film, and so on. This world earn me some money half of which I would devote to the R.A. Benevolent Fund.

I have been arguing with the DHSS about a Disability Pension for a neurosis I contracted from an improper order given by an officer to me, a Gunner, in the fighting in June 1940 (not mentioned in the book, of course,) just before we were captured and which resulted in a serious neurosis which resulted in my being unable to get a job after discharge in 1942, which resulted in no income and a disability to buy NHS stamps which is still reflected now in that I receive only two/thirds of my State Pension. The neurosis is getting worse now and is seriously affecting my life. Can you do anything with DHSS about it? I was offered the M.M. when in Lisbon whilst working for Intelligence on escape schemes but (foolishly) refused as I was then more interested in getting other escaped P.O.W’s to safety.
