Description | Transcription: Dear Mr. Enock, Thank you for your letter of 18th February, and for allowing us the opportunity of seeing the typescript of your book. It was kind of our mutual friend, Walter Shepherd, to suggest that you should contact us. We very much regret, however, that we are unable to offer our services to you in respect of the negotiation of this TS. The fact is that, in these days of ever-spiralling overheads, and bearing in mind that our commission can only be earned on sales effected, we have to treat with extreme caution every proposition put to us and to eschew those which, in our view, are highly speculative. And, alas, we feel your MS comes into this category. There is a market for war experiences, as you will know, but they really do have to offer something out of the ordinary, which hasn't been previously provided for the reading public. This in no way seeks to denegrate your story, but merely to explain our position. I am afraid I cannot personally suggest an alternative literary agent whom you might approach, but if you check in the appropriate section of the Writers' & Artists' Year Book - available at your local reference library - this will to some extent guide you as to the type of work each is interested in handling. Your typescript is returned herewith. |
