Dear Mrs. Montgomery,

My old prep. school friend Walter Shepherd has suggested that I send you my manuscript of a book I have written which is entitled 'Monsieur Joseph', and I enclose same herewith. I do hope it arrives safely.

The book is a factual account of my adventures in the fighting in France in May/June 1940, the capture of the famous 51st. Highland Division at St. Valery-en-Caux, in Normandy, my escape near Lille, (Nord), and my subsequent journey across Occupied France, the infamous Line of Demarkation, across Vichy France to Marseille, clandestinely crossing the Pyrenees into enemy-controlled Spain in January 1941, imprisonment in Madrid, to Lisbon working for Intelligence on escape routes for other escapers, and the flight back to U.K. in July 1941.

It is my tribute to 'le peuple' of France by whose bravery and abiding friendships literally thousands of British escaped P.O.W’s managed to get home safely.

I would say at once that the book has no sex, virtually no violence, and only a minor love interest.

I do hope you will like the book.

If it is not in your line perhaps you might suggest someone who might be more suitable.
